Tourism deputy and cultural heritage of Yazd province announced the arrival of more than 470 thousand tourists since March 2019. They have been both domestic and foreign tourists.
Homa khorshidi mentioned a 180 percent increase in tourists’ staying in residential units of Yazd. “During the first six months of this Persian year (since March 2019), 476 thousand domestic and foreign tourists in total have visited Yazd Province; 406 thousand of them were Iranians”, she said.
“70 thousand foreign tourists have traveled to Yazd Province in the first six months of this year. They have mostly entered the country from China, Italy, Germany, and France. In addition, this number has grown by 32 percent compared to the same period last year. More than 140 thousand domestic tourists and 24 thousand foreign tourists have traveled to Yazd during the summer,” she declared. “Italians were the majority of the foreign tourists.” She added.
On the other hand, this statistics don’t include the number of passengers and tourists visiting Yazd during the Nowruz holidays. In truth, more than a million domestic and foreign tourists arrived in Yazd Province during Nowruz holidays.
“These tourists have stayed in one-star to five-star hotels, motels, traditional and eco-tourism residential units, parks, and tourist centers”. She continued.
A bit about Yazd Province
It’s good to know that Yazd Province is one of the major provinces of Iran regarding natural and tourist sites. It includes about 4000 tangible heritage tourist attractions besides special intangible cultural heritages. “Nakhl Gardani” is one of the famous intangible cultural heritages of Yazd. This ritual is carried out on the Day of Ashura (in Muharram) annually. Last year, this ceremony had attracted more than 1500 foreign tourists to Yazd in order to visiting it. These tourists were in the city from 30 different countries to watch the mourning of Muharram in Yazd.
